Grace Watch #6 (Mar. 3-9, 2008)

{Disclaimer: Being the daughter of an attorney, I have this legal streak in me that requires that I have a disclaimer about everything. Just ask Dave. Anywho, these "Grace Watch" entries usually end up being pretty long, so I don't want anyone to feel like they have to read the whole thing. I write them (1)for my own record-keeping, because I can't possibly scrapbook all the cute things she does and (2) for family members who don't get to see Gracie very much, so I try to be as thorough as I can about all that she's doing. If it gets boring to you, please don't feel obligated to read it; but you're definitely welcome if you want to read it! Ok, that's all. I feel better.} Now on with the show!

New Words of the Week: We've had some fun new vocab this week. Her new words are "work" (wik), "shadow" (da-dow), "wow" (wooow!), "yay", "stop" (dop!), and "spin" (min). Now for the explanations:
Dave works at home on Fridays (SO nice!), so for 3 days in a row
he is home when she wakes up. She walks down the hall saying, "Daaa-dee?" until she finds him, and then it's a very happy reunion. :) Well, because of this, Mondays are kinda sad, 'cause she calls him and he's not there! I always tells her he's at work, and last week I think she started to understand. So now when she sees a picture of him or thinks of Daddy, she says, "Daddy, wik." As if to say, "I miss Daddy, but it's ok--I know he's at work."

She has also become acquainted with her shadow, and they are good friends. Anytime we go outside and she sees it, she says, "Hi, da-dow!" and it waves back, of course, and then she goes about playing and exploring. Adorable! Here she is waving to it.

By the way, she LOVES her new Crocs--definitely her favorite shoes!

"Wow" and "yay" are just things she picked up from me, when I get excited about something she does. Now when she claps she often throws a "yay!" in there as well. :)
"Stop" is not a happy development, but certainly was inevitable. I say "Stop!" when she does something she's not supposed to, so now when I do something she doesn't want me to do (like wipe her nose, or try to put her in her carseat), she wiggles and squirms and says, "DOP!" It's hard not to laugh.
She's heard "spin" on her Baby Einstein video and seen all the little kids in it spinning around, but she didn't figure out how to spin by herself until one of our leisurely walks this past week. She figured out that if she moved her feet a certain way, she would turn around! I said, "Ooh, spin!" and she said, "Min?" and kept doing it. Next she found out what it was like to be dizzy and started walking like she was drunk. :)

New Food of the Week (and Grace's reaction): Umm, I don't think she tried anything new this week. Although she has had a renewed interest in oatmeal, so I'm glad for that. :)

Who could resist that $1 headband at Target?!

New Injury of the Week: Besides falling down here and there, she hasn't had any serious owies. She had a small bruise on her forehead, but I'm not sure where it came from. (Is that awful? I hope I'm not the only mother who's said that!)

Grace loves to kick this soccer ball Dave gave her for Christmas.
Here's an action shot of her kicking it with such vigor that she fell down. :)

Adventures/Stories of the Week: Well, we've had some fun times! On Tuesday we had a playdate at the park with some of the other babies/kids in the ward, and it was so fun! Gracie was a little anti-social, preferring to wander off in the grass, but it was fun to see all the other moms and babies. It happens every week, so I'm excited to have another one tomorrow. :)

Just chillin'

Another day, I was reading a blog and the person's playlist of songs started playing "Sweet Escape" by Gwen Stefani, and Gracie LOVED it! It is now her favorite song in the world. A few minutes after it ended, Gracie pointed to the computer and said, "Hoo-hoo, anain [again]?" It took me a while to figure out what she wanted, but then I realized that she was thinking of her favorite part of the song, where they sing, "woo-hoo, yee-hoo!" over and over again. [Sorry, I don't know if that's what they're saying--that's what it sounds like to me.] So, needless to say, we listen to that song several times a day now. I never thought her favorite song would be one sung by Gwen Stefani, but hey, at least I like the song too! Here is Gracie dancing to it:

Final story: Saturday morning Gracie and I went grocery shopping. She was doing really well with staying in the cart and not complaining too much, so I was excited. As I was finishing up, she grabbed the pen I was using to cross off things from the list, and I figured, "Eh, as long as she's happy." I was careful to make sure she didn't push the button to get the writing end to come out. Well, as I was comparing some items, apparently she got the writing end out. Seriously, it couldn't have been more than a minute that I wasn't looking, and I look back at her to find this:

This picture doesn't show it all. There are (still) pen marks inside her ear, and she wrote on her shirt too. The lady at the checkout was pretty amused. Actually, I was too, but I couldn't believe how quickly she had done it!

Congrats if you've made it this far! Tune in next week for more Gracie news. :)
